Why You Should Maintain Your Curb & Gutter?

We are sure you have noticed curbs and gutters on the side of roads and highways. While many think that the main function of the curb and gutter is to accentuate the aesthetics of the highway or road, it is far from just the matter of "beautification.” Adding curbs and gutters to the paving project will serve many functions, starting from the point of safety to the matter of protection.

So, What Purposes Do Gutter And Curbs Serve? Let's Find Out…

Every major city includes curbs and gutters on the side of the road. It is installed on the edges of the roadside and parking lots. Normally, it is made out of concrete using a Curb Machine as it is the main element recommended; sometimes, curbs made out of asphalt, stone, or masonry blocks can be noticed.

The main purpose of the curb gutter is to reinforce the pavement in a way that supports the structure of the pavement that is laid down as a road surface. Nonetheless, it is poured with the help of the Curb Machine before the asphalt is brought into the scene. Normally, it goes around eight inches thick so that it can create a powerful barrier.

As the edge of the asphalt is one of the weakest points and most vulnerable points that can first get damaged from the vehicles, the car’s weight may push the asphalt towards the outlying space without reinforcing the edge. Most of the time, they can cause cracks, even in some cases, crumbling of the pavement.

Because once crackling takes place, the water will seep into the cracks, which will set in the process of deterioration of the pavement. As water is the arch-enemy of asphalt, the gutter will save it from ruination. However, the curb and gutter will help create a channel to direct run-off into collection points like drains and sewers.

This will keep the water from getting into the underlying roadbeds and create havoc. In other words, it saves the path from degeneration and extends the life of the road. It also protects the surrounding. First of all, it does not require much of the roadbed to keep the traffic and vehicles confined.

Ending note:

So, all in all, the curbs and gutter are responsible for increasing the property’s value by strengthening the integrity of the road. Meanwhile, it also accentuates the aesthetics of the neighborhood while adding a layer of attractiveness.
